Game: Hangman
Gaming Elements:
Text - instructions on how to play the game. Players must be able to read and comprehend the instructions before playing.
Visual-graphic - different parts of the hangman's body are hung on the gallows when a player guesses an incorrect letter. Students must be able to understand that each additional body part that is hung is indicative of an incorrect choice. They must also be able to guage when the hangman is close to being hanged, thus increasing their caution when guessing letters.
Audio - players must be able to distinguish between the sounds that are made when he chooses an incorrect letter, and the sounds made when a correct choice is made.
Goal: Players must guess the correct word before the hangman is hanged.
Rules: The player guesses a letter. If the letter is part of the word, the computer places it in its correct spot in the word. If the letter is not part of the word, a body part of the hangman is hanged on the gallows. If the player guesses the word before the hangman is hanged, he wins. If the entire hangman is hanged before the player guesses the word, he loses.
The game design is embedded in curriculum-related content. This game helps players improve their spelling, vocabulary, and phonemic awareness.
